
...but a bottle of wine, three feathers, a rubber band, googley eyes from my kids' craft set, a streamer hook, hot glue, and some purple nail polish later and I'd tied my first bass popper. The tails are a little long and I'm guessing the eyes will last no more than a few dunkings, but it feels good. Feels like an honest attempt to bring bass fishing into the crafty, self congratulating world of fly fishing for trout. I'm sure I'm not the first to do this - I heard the other day someone a few years back also already coined a similar carp moniker: The Berkshire Golden Bonefish. But that's not what it's about. What's ever really new? It's about how well you learn from the past and derive the next generation of creations. I have a ways to go with the Chianti Popper...
