Bass

As we were packing up the car to leave the lake, I took advantage of a few last minutes as some laundry dried to cast a small popper out over the weed patches. I'd had nothing but bluegill all week, but saw it as a chance to practice long casts on dock on a still day. Several tosses in, this guy quietly slurped the popper... A good little small mouth on light tackle is always fun and I felt a little relieved of my sins the day before.

"Hey, Jason likes fishing..." or Speed boats, sonar, barbs, and live bait. Drunk by 7AM

At 6:38am, I reeled in the first of four large lake trout that we whacked and took home. By 7:00am I was drunk on plastic bottle vodka spiked with a little bloody mary mix and drinking beer. From a can, of course.

One fish; two fish; well, just one fish; little bluefish...

picking on the babies... an embarrassingly small, 10-12" bluefish.

No fish, no complaints

No fish yet - perhaps it's too much the middle of summer, but fishing reports are saying fish are there...we'll see. But in the mean time, I have no complaints about being on the ocean sunset, etc...

Hooked

First day out. Like it seems it happens every other time I'm out in the ocean, I felt like I had no chance. No fish and no hope. Then, back in the parking lot I did one of those stupid things and busted a guide off the middle of my 9wt - except this was even stupider because I not only busted it off (I was tugging too hard to separate the ferrules after the rod heated up throughout the day and swelled shut when my hand slipped) but I lodged it so deep in the inside bend my left index finger that Jonathan had to literally haul in it with a pair of pliers to get it out. And he's a dentist. He pulls out molars and stuff for a living. Not sure what it was stuck in, but I assume under the tendons (couldn't bend my finger with it in there) and maybe to the bone (it was stuck good). Certainly it was it's normal twisting self and tangled deep in my flesh. Never felt it. Immediately went into shock and then nearly passed out as soon as it came out. Yeah - fun day.

A bad omen

Found this on the counter the other day. Like an omen. Haunting me. Thank god we're headed to Rhode Island and the coast and the promise of big fish this week...

Ryan, you suck

He wrote this..."I found a little sport where I caught about 10 fish right after one another...then called Scott to join me and he caught a ton. Then, called his wife to join us and she caught a ton. I literally got bored of catching rainbows like this:"

I hope it was cold and you have a lot of mosquito bites.

Meant to go fishing today

Got skunked on the Farmington...sat for an hour in the car from 5:30 am to almost 7 am waiting to see if the rain might possibly let up. Rain was coming down, water was coming up and getting muddy, so I left. But later, drunk on tequila and enticed by the pond with the fountain and the unfished bass, Erik, Hal and I slung the 3wt around and caught a few little bass. Soon after this last picture, I fell in, camera, cell phone, and all...flip-flops on moss...we'll see...

Gin

I didn't mean to go fishing today. But it happened. A photo shoot wrapped up early leaving me right near a bridge over a slow, deep pool on the gin-clear Green River with an hour to spare...As I've noted before, there's always a rod strung up in my car and so just 5 minutes and two casts later I had a little rainbow jumping at the end of an extra long 7x leader...

He popped off and I could raise no more of these unseen fish from this tiny, transparent pool, but it's times like these, unplanned and catching fish in tough, unlikely water that I fish for.
